My Pen Collection
Whenever somebody – be it somebody special or not – gives me a pen as a gift or otherwise, I have this habit of keeping it. I don’t mind whether it’s cheap or expensive, branded or not. What matters most is that it’s from somebody. I never considered collecting this nor did I fully understand why I have been keeping these stuffs. I came only to realize that I was into pen collection when I saw a couple of pens in my drawer. Some of the pens which have been with me for a long period of time now – some of which has been in my drawer for more than a decade now- are the following:
- The PARKER ballpens and sign pens which were given by my brother in law, my father and my husband. Two of them are in still in their original package, meaning it have been left unopened and unused.
- A red CROSS ballpen (not from the Red Cross!)given by my bestfriend Haidee and a CROSS sign pen which was given to me by . . . never mind, he became insignificant many years ago.
- The first set of silver pens purchased by my husband when he was still a freshman law student with his name engraved on each pen.
- A gold plated pen with my father’s name engraved on it, of course given by my father.
- The incredibly lucky pens used by my husband when he took the bar exams. The same pens which made his penmanship readable, although not necessarily beautiful, that captured the blurry eyes of the examiners who all gave him passing marks.
- A lot of freebie pens mostly coming from pharmaceutical companies and originally given to my doctor sister and were in turn given to me.
- Many ordinary pens either bought by me or by my husband just for nothing.
Ironically, those pens end up in their cases inside my table drawer. I don’t write much nowadays and my penmanship isn’t as good as the pens. Most probably, my penmanship will downgrade the status of the pens if I will use them. Hahahaha.

Weekends at the Beach
My daughter is a beach bum while I am not and so is my husband. If I have other places to go and the privilege to choose is freely given to me, I wouldn’t go to the beach. Maybe going to the mall or other shopping destinations will be first my option and beach will be the last. The beach has never been a favorite hangout for me since then although I am not saying that I totally hate going to the beach. Of course, I love the sight of the picturesque beauty of the placid sea waters which gives peace to my heart and mind and do appreciate the coolness of the sea breeze which is perfect to chill out my dead beat and un-energized spirit while I listen to the humming of the waves that in itself composes a beautiful musical sound.
Recently, however, the beach became the weekend retreat for the whole family without me complaining about any fuzz of going there. In fact, it was me who persuaded my husband to bring our daughter to the beach to grant her long time request of spending a day at the beach.
Finally, we’ve been to the beach for many weekends now and my daughter still enjoys making sand castles.
