Sound Trip
November 1, 2008
After a pretty exhaustive day of dusting off the mounds of dusts all over our house to transform it to a more habitable quarters for the human beings – I’m just kidding actually, our house is not that grubby, I succumbed into an uninterrupted two-hour sound tripping session coupled with the unearthing of never-heard-before artists whose music, should I say, were those that I heard many times being played over the airwaves. The music that I never learned to appreciate and the music whose singers I have never known. The advancing of my age which comes incongruently with the regress of my interest in getting hooked with the MYX and MTV Channels must have something to do with this failure to get acquainted with the new artists – new to me only – whose music represents the new generation. Or it could be due to the fact that I am on a daily basis overly engrossed with my maternal duties that this has to carry the blame as the culprit for my insensitivity to appreciate the new music of the new millennium. Or perhaps it’s just my inborn deafness to music that prevents me from hearing the right musical note that makes a beautiful sound of music appreciated by everyone except me.
The sound trip wasn’t part of today’s program of activities. I was supposed to decorate my Christmas tree after I finished the laundry but my arthritic body never allowed me to do more extraneous activity –putting decors on my Christmas tree isn’t extraneous actually. I simply got tired that I decided to sit infront of my laptop and get relaxed. One of my favorite ways to relax is to get connected with the internet and surf. Surfing sometimes reaches the point that I get extremely tired again! It came as a surprise to me when, instead of attaching myself to the wide world of internet, I opened the long time hibernating ‘my music’ in the hard disc of my laptop . The high school musical songs made me feel like the contemporary Vanessa Hudgens who has a big crush on Zac Efron while the songs of Hillary Duff gave me the experience of feeling like being fantasized by a teenage boy who keeps on asking his mom ‘who is that girl next door?’ and Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana music transformed me to become a quite naughty party girl going on a date with one of the Jonas Brothers . After the youthful music, my sound preference changed to something loud – but not so loud – by having Chris Daughtry’s Absent Element, Journey’s Faithfully and Eye of the Tiger, Hinder’s Lips of an Angel, and Akon’s Beautiful Girls. I realized that these new artists have amazing music. But wait, Journey is not a new artist, how come it’s only recently – when Allan Pineda became the new lead vocalist – that I came to know them? Poor me, perhaps I am a hundred years older than them! Whew, my eardrums almost blew up listening all those varied music type. But it was all worth the two hours spent on discovering new sounds that made me embrace again the long time gone youthfulness in me.
My sound trip never ended there. I went to explore the Bossa Nova melody; novelty songs; the favorite amateur singing contest pieces of Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, and Martin Nievera; the sexy songs of Rihanna, Fergie, Pussycat Dolls, Spice Girlsthe karaoke hit songs Kylie Minogue, Sheena Easton, Olivia Newton John, Melissa Manchester, Gloria Estefan, and Gloria Gaynor; and the all-time standard songs of Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Platters, Nat King Cole.
